Breakfast Headlines


Nashua Cape Cobras fast bowler Monde Zondeki says they're hoping to do well in the Supersport Series for a change. He's one of five players who received the Mutual & Federal Cricketers of the Year award. Brothers Albie and Morne Morkel, spinner Johan Botha and fast bowler Dillon du Preez were the other names announced at a banquet in Johannesburg last night. Zondeki took the most wickets in the Supersport Series last year and says he's hoping for some lively wickets this season.

India have thrashed Australia by 320 runs in the second test in Mohali. Zaheer Khan took three wickets in fours balls to help get the Aussies 195 all out.

Don't expect anything different from the Sharks or the Vodacom Blue Bulls during Saturday's ABSA Currie Cup final in Durban. The Sharks are expected name an unchanged side today, while Bulls coach, Frans Ludeke, says they'll stick to the tried and tested. The debate around the future of the Springbok is expected to continue in Parliament today. Meanwhile, SA Rugby has dismissed reports that senior players are threatening to boycott the end of year tour if Luke Watson is selected. The squad will be announced immediately after the Currie Cup final and I think Watson's versatility will see him make the team.

Santos great Edries Burton says the team needs to gain some momemtum for the league. This after The People's Team were thrashed 5-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic in the Telkom knockout on Sunday. Santos have only won one game in the league so far and are sitting in 11th spot. If they want to repeat last season's top three finish they'll have to start getting some wins. Burton says no team can become bad over night.!

The champions of Scotland and England go head to head this evening in the UEFA Champions League. Manchester United welcome Celtic to Old Trafford. Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson says this game always attracts great support for the scots. Arsenal look to stay top of their Champions League group when they face Fenerbahce in Turkey tonight. Manager Arsene Wenger says a victory could be crucial for the rest of their campaign.
